Grammy BeeThis this is the first book of a new series and you're off to a good start。 I'm sure it's challenging when creating a new world, as it's not just the characters that make a story, it's the scene, plot and storyline plus more goodies that are added in to keep us interested。 And while this story is a bit predictable, we really get a feel for all the characters and the backstory of the town。 I enjoyed this story, I live in a small town and for sure know how quickly your business becomes e Grammy BeeThis this is the first book of a new series and you're off to a good start。 I'm sure it's challenging when creating a new world, as it's not just the characters that make a story, it's the scene, plot and storyline plus more goodies that are added in to keep us interested。 And while this story is a bit predictable, we really get a feel for all the characters and the backstory of the town。 I enjoyed this story, I live in a small town and for sure know how quickly your business becomes everyone's, it was easy to connect with Dillion and her feelings。 I was charmed by Van, for a city slicker, he was pretty down to earth and not too full of himself。 I loved the confrontation at the beginning between these two, even then the chemistry was off the charts。 I'm looking forward to the next book。 。。。more

I don't have much to say about this story。 There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but there's nothing all that noteworthy about it。 I've only read a few Helena Hunting romances, but I have come to expect more from her。 There is all sorts of stuff going on in this story, but nothing is really examined deeply。 It sort of felt like Helena had thrown a bunch of typical romantic tropes into a hat and grabbed a handful of them to throw into this story。 Return to the small hometown。 Family drama。 De I don't have much to say about this story。 There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but there's nothing all that noteworthy about it。 I've only read a few Helena Hunting romances, but I have come to expect more from her。 There is all sorts of stuff going on in this story, but nothing is really examined deeply。 It sort of felt like Helena had thrown a bunch of typical romantic tropes into a hat and grabbed a handful of them to throw into this story。 Return to the small hometown。 Family drama。 Deceased beloved elderly woman。 Misunderstandings。 Hate-to-love romance。 Awkward first meeting。 Etc。 Etc。 Etc。 Lots of stuff going on 。。。 but no real direction to anything。 I didn't hate the characters, but I wasn't really drawn to them either。 This is a personal issue, so it might not bother everyone, but I REALLY hated the way that a mental health crisis was handled in this story。 It is obvious pretty quickly that one of the characters is dealing with a mental breakdown。 It was infuriating how quickly this resolved itself。 Maybe it's because I have seen first-hand how terribly difficult it is to navigate mental health services in this country。 Maybe it's because I know that people don't just go to a hospital for a few weeks and then magically come back completely healed。 Maybe it's because I know that bi-polar disease can wreak havoc on the people to struggle with it and the families who love them。 I don't know。 But it really irritated me that it just resolved itself with little effort from anyone in this story。Speaking of resolving itself easily 。。。 that's pretty much the story of this book。 There are all sorts of little issues that everyone has, and pretty much all of those issues get resolved without effort。 I'm going to give this three stars, but I think I'm being generous in that rating。And finally, as a person who grew up in a small town, I have to say that so many of these small town books have unrealistic stereotypes of small town relationships。 Yeah, everyone knows everyone else's business。 But people grow up after high school。 They don't spend two decades of their lives reliving their high school grievances。 This rich kid-poor kid dynamic was over the top。 Maybe my experience was unusual。 Maybe I was naive and didn't notice these dynamics in my hometown crowd。 But if I had gone back home in my thirties, I guarantee that I would not have ended up at what basically amounts to a keg party at the local gathering spot with all my high school friends who acted exactly the same as we did in high school。 I don't know 。。。 it seems like lazy writing to portray everyone that way。 As for the audio narration 。。。 Andi Arndt does an amazing job, as always。 Teddy Hamilton is a great narrator as well。 I love his male narration, but the more I listen to his audio narrations, the more his female voices drive me crazy。 I think it's because his natural voice is so deep。 When he tries to do girls' voices, they sound ridiculous 。。。 sort of like a cartoon version of a valley girl。 He's still a good narrator, but there's enough of an irritation listening to him here that it doesn't help an already problematic story。 Three stars。 I liked this book 。。。 sort of。 。。。more

Love Next Door is a sweet, small town romance。 Dillion returns to Pearl Lake, her hometown after her brother’s accident to help out with her family business。 Her feelings of unease are quickly replaced when she unexpectedly meets her new neighbour Van。 Even though they get off to a rough start, it isn’t long before sparks are flying between them。 This is book 1 in a new series。 Cannot wait for book 2!

I really enjoyed this story。 I'm a lover of small-town romances and Helena did not disappoint with her creation of Pearl Lake as a setting that readers will enjoy for books to come。 I resonated a lot personally with Dillion's desire to break out of the small town she grew up in for "the city", but also the need to come back home to help out her family when times got tough。 I really enjoyed Dillion's initial tension and stand-off with Van (love that enemies-to-lovers vibe), but also enjoyed how t I really enjoyed this story。 I'm a lover of small-town romances and Helena did not disappoint with her creation of Pearl Lake as a setting that readers will enjoy for books to come。 I resonated a lot personally with Dillion's desire to break out of the small town she grew up in for "the city", but also the need to come back home to help out her family when times got tough。 I really enjoyed Dillion's initial tension and stand-off with Van (love that enemies-to-lovers vibe), but also enjoyed how they bonded over their shared affection for Van's grandma and Dillion's lifelong neighbor, as well as revealing secrets about their past interactions。 The elements of mystery and intrigue around Van's inheritance and Dillion's brothers actions added something to the story to keep you involved, and the handling of Dillion's brother's situation when it all came to a head was well done。 I wasn't expecting a mystery from Helena in this one, but I enjoyed it! This is Dillion and Van’s story。 It’s different from the other books of this author that I’ve read。 However, I enjoyed the different layers of these characters and the small-town where the story is based。 I hope many more books come after this one because I really liked the town, the people and the main characters in this story。
